Artist Bio

Remy Roberts is a Sydney based multi disciplinary Artist whose practice encompasses drawing, painting, and installation.
He is the co-founder and Director of Tekminimal Gallery in Sydney. Where he has exhibited his work and curated the majority of the exhibitions.

My work is best described as abstract and surreal landscapes using mixed media. Subject matter comes from a fascination with cartoons, graffiti ,photography, plants and streetscapes. A lot of concepts derive from my own photographs, which I like to dissect and use as black and white collage pieces. Creating lots of mini scenes within a bigger picture. For me though it is mostly about materials and process. Understanding how to use different mediums together in a simple approach. The works are driven by how the materials speak to one another. Letting the materials guide the process of how they are created but in no particular order. Using the same mixture of mediums, some might start with a blob of spray paint and others with a piece of collage or a pen or brush mark. Then building with the other mediums where they fit.
Its about finding the balance between the materials in a minimal way. Not over working things and limiting my colour palettes. Using negative space to control the composition and exploring what works well as I go. Recognising any imperfections along the way and turning them into new directions. Overall I think maintaining a playful process throughout is the key purpose of their creation.

His work is held in private collections in Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom
