Artwork Description

Banksias are one of my favourite Australian native plants. Their shape, texture and detail are the inspiration for this artwork. Growing under the trees are quite often a range of other plants/ much maligned weeds struggling to be seen but dominated by the much more prominent Banksia. We kayak along Noosa River and these particular banksias were growing outside a home where we store our kayaks.
The collage blue circles are tissue paper and craft paper in different shades of blue representing the water and gorgeous blue sky.
Artwork is floated to capture the beauty of the deckled edges of 300gsm watercolour paper. It is framed in oak with a blue mat and premium glass for superior colour and clarity with minimal reflection and 70%UV protection. This artwork will be replaced with Acrylic glass for an easier freight experience if being delivered outside the Sunshine Coast.

Artist Bio

I retired as a primary school teacher in 2015 and relocated from the Snowy Mountains area of NSW to the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. I have no formal art education but have attended a variety of workshops with Australian artists since retiring.

I have always been passionate about creativity and my love of colour was an integral part of my teaching practice.

I am inspired by the natural sub- tropical environment in which we live particularly the colours, textures , lines and shapes that abound wherever I look. Over the years I have developed a love of the design qualities inherent in everything I see, both living and non-living.

My artworks are vibrant and eye- catching pushing the boundaries of traditional watercolour by using bold, intense colour, mixed media and mark making to highlight the design elements I see. I like to capture the essence of a subject and create layers of interest and detail that draw the viewer’s attention and also reflect my enthusiasm for what I create.

I like to think the soul essence of my work is like a mathematical equation :
create colourful, vibrant +unique artworks + that make people smile = a happy you; a happy me.

I have exhibited in various group exhibitions in Noosa and for the past three years, I have been an artist in the hugely successful Noosa Open Studios Art Trails.
I love what I do, love colour and creating artworks that are original and unique. My artwork is bringing smiles and joy to collectors across Australia and overseas.
