There is something captivating about the ability of film photography to create drama out of an ordinary moment. I often find myself drawn to my family’s great collection of photo albums, captured by the beauty in composition, colour and expression, and the careful record of every birthday and holiday. Working with these subjects, I pay tribute to the reverence previously given to images, and I indulge my excitement for exploring personal history. This work depicts the hand of Gran holding a birthday cake for my Dad. On the wall behind hangs an original Albert Namitjira painting, gifted to my grandparents on their wedding day but later lost in a house fire.
