Margarita Stepanova is a Ukrainian-born visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and Computer Design from Kherson State University, with qualifications as an artist and art teacher. Her work has been presented in group exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Romania, Poland, Albania, Türkiye, Slovenia and Ukraine. In 2023, she was featured in Artwork Gallery Magazine.
Her practice explores human connection, memory, migration and belonging. In her ongoing series The Language of Hands, expressive gestures become a visual language for feelings and values that are often difficult to communicate through words. Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media on textured surfaces, Margarita combines figurative imagery with a soft, restrained palette. Her paintings invite viewers to reflect on touch, vulnerability, family bonds and the quiet emotional experiences shared between people.
