Red Dunes was inspired by the sand dunes at Cape Woolamai, Phillip Island. I abstracted the scene using vivid colour, simplifying the forms and minimalising the sea and sky to contrast with the details of the spinifex on the sand dunes. The finished painting suggests a summer sunset. The edges are painted in a darker blue which picks up the blue details in the spinifex. The painting is finished with a gloss varnish and is ready to hang. It would brighten and warm up any living space and would particularly suit a beach house.
