A self portrait which aims to show my closeness to the sea - both physically and spiritually. It also relates to my migration by sea as a child - the ship in the background and the figure in the foreground bear the remnants of streamers- a sign of farewell which also signifies broken ties with family. Those in the foreground could also be read as sea lapping through the figure. I've incorporated an abstract seascape in the background, similar to some I've painted. This is the second self portrait I've completed - both have been challenging. It's quite difficult working from a mirror image, particularly when the mirror smashes to the ground. Maybe that was a sign to stop!
