Hola amigos! This painting was inspired by memories of my travels to Mazatlan, in beautiful and colourful Mexico many many years ago. I wanted to convey that glorious feeling of being young and care-free on holidays with your friends.
I used many many layers of colours to build up the vibrant under-painting and then I selected a sunny golden yellow for the negative space in the top portion representing the bold colours of Mexico and a deep turquoisy green to represent the Pacific coast of Mazatlan below. The bursts of colour flow throughout the painting and are further outlined in gold acrylic pen for added intensity.
