Artwork Description

This is the 1st piece of a diptych available on its own or the two pieces together for a reduced price (message for price). It was inspired by the tides of Broome , Western Australia which, at almost 10 metres difference between high and low tide, are the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. I wanted to convey in this painting the rhythmic nature of the ebb and flow of the ocean using the unique and vibrant colours of the area.

Artist Bio

Hello! I am an abstract artist inspired by the unique beauty of Western Australia and the white sands and clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. I use these and other colours to represent the calm feeling evoked by the wild and isolated beauty of coastal WA.

I build my paintings up from many layers of dense vivid colours to the point of chaos which I then reduce by the use of negative space to reveal small brilliant bursts of vibrancy that dip and splash like tropical fish, moving about the canvas in a joyous, light and playful flow of colour.

The overall effect is a simultaneous feeling of joyful energy and serenity.

A little about me - I moved with my family to WA from the San Francisco Bay Area about ten years ago. It was quite an experience to sell our house, leave our family and friends and start anew in WA. It was not easy but I have never regretted our decision. California is a wonderful place but for so many reasons I am so much happier and at peace here.

Like most artists here on Bluethumb I grew up drawing and painting and it was all I really wanted to do but life got in the way and I stopped making art with the birth of my first daughter about 17 years ago. About a year ago in a passing conversation my husband mentioned someone he ran into that had some paint on his hands because he liked to paint as a hobby. I was so struck by this with the feeling that I was the one that was supposed to have paint on my hands! I was the one that was supposed to be making art! Strange the things that can cause your life to change its course but since that day I have started painting again and I feel like my life has entered a new phase.

I hope you will like my artworks and bring them into your home. They are joyful and colourful with a lot going on in them that keep your eyes moving about the painting.

My paintings are all varnished, painted to the edges and ready to hang.
