Hi, nice to meet you! I am self taught artist living in beautiful WA.. A couple of years ago my life took some crazy turns and and I picked up a paint brush to soothe my journey; I have been creating prolifically ever since. After working creatively with my hands as a chef for three decades, I have found the transition from knife to paint palette effortless and fluid, so similar in composition, balance, texture and colour ~from plate to canvas with joy.
I am an intuitive artist, an abstract story teller~ drawing on the environment, my moods, personal circumstances and social issues. Creating works as thick with paint as emotion and moments of deep personal epiphany. I work with acrylics, adjusting my mediums and techniques to gather texture, moods and depth. Often using my hands and everyday tools combined with brushes, sponges and pallet knives. Combining multi media applications such as impasto, modelling paste, spray paints, my own bespoke paint leathers, inks and salvaged treasures from my wanderings.
I am always working in the greyer areas, forcing myself to grow and see more. As a self taught artist I have no rules to adhere to which leaves me free to play without constraint, inquisitive~ embracing my inner child, “I play”. At times working quickly with an intense, almost forceful energy that comes from the absolute desire to share story. At other times I am still and in touch with my breath. My heart slows and I am completely intergrated in the moment.
I am deeply fascinated with the way the natural environment deteriorates and eventually encompasses everything in its wake. I take influence from rust, flaking paint, lichen and decay. Taking inspiration from exploring abandoned buildings and houses as much as I do roadside trash. Through my art I strive to understand and expose the idea that underneath social order, expectations, wealth and desire, we are all just the same; A realisation that we all return to the beginning in the end. We can not avoid our humanness.
