'Magical Sunflowers' is painted in a highly stylised, deliberately planned manner. Following recent surgery I've spent considerable time with my feet up . This painting is the result of having lots of opportunity to observe my subject closely and to plan my response.
I started by drawing the sunflowers and leaves onto my canvas, carefully working out the interplay of positive and negative spaces, as well as the effect of sunlight and shadows in the glass vase. A touch of whimsy came from lovely curly tendrils of wisteria that are growing on the pergola outside my window. They too are arranged in a stylised manner.
Once happy with my drawing, I moved into acrylics and my painting evolved over many sessions in my home studio. I am really pleased with the result and hope you will be too!
