Artwork Description

This painting shows a section of one of three magnificent Yellow Box gum trees that have been growing on the property where we live for at least 150 years, and according to the arborist who helps us maintain them, are only in mid life, so hopefully will be here for many decades more. This particular tree is often illuminated by the setting sun, and I have painted it here in the twilight when the sky sometimes is a gorgeous aqua near the horizon, fading to a deeper blue higher in the sky.
This tree provides food and welcome shelter to magpies, currawongs, rooks, rainbow lorikeets and fruit bats. Our children grew up playing underneath its spreading branches. It's been part of the fabric of our family life for more than 40 years since we first moved here. I hope my painting conveys a sense of the love we have for this tree. It will bring presence to any room in which it hangs.

Artist Bio

Thank you for visiting my page. Painting is central to my life and happiness, and I hope you will sense an expression of joy in my work.

I paint in both oils and acrylics, choosing whatever style I feel is right for my subject, sometimes in a traditional representative manner, sometimes impressionistic, sometimes abstract. I enjoy painting nature, including flowers, trees and birds in my own garden, still life arrangements, land and seascapes.

I have painted all my life and work from my home studio. I also regularly paint with a group of artists whom I count among my best friends.

My paintings are held in private collections in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Canada.

I have won several prizes including Best Oil in Show at Mornington, Best Acrylic in show at Mount View, Best Land or Seascape at Mount View, People’s Choice at Flinders, and several High Commendations.

In 2013, I was honoured with the Order of Australia medal for services to the education of deaf children. It is lovely now, as an older woman, to have the opportunity to give back to my community as a volunteer in a program that supports parents of deaf babies and toddlers.
