Original Artwork's Description

I have painted this scene from my own favourite photo of Bunker Bay taken on our summer holiday. The colour of the water contrasted with the creamy colour of the sand always delights me. The figures, tents and flag on the beach add colour and interest. I think looking through the trees and vegetation towards this iconic beach is a lovely way to view this scene and I believe this painting evokes very happy memories of summer holidays. I first prepared a top quality canvas with gesso and then drew the main parts of the painting using my photo as the guide. I then used professional quality acrylic paints and different sized brushes to paint each section of the scene. I have continued the painting on the sides of the canvas . I think viewing this painting would take you straight to this iconic beach and add interest to any room. It has a strong hanger and will be ready to place on the wall when you receive it.

Artist Bio

My name is Marilyn Kiesey. I live in Perth Western Australia and I have been painting now for about 15 years. I worked as a lecturer in Business Studies at Perth TAFE for many years but have always loved drawing. When I retired from teaching at TAFE I was able to explore watercolour, pastel and oil painting.

I love experimenting with all the different mediums and my favourite subjects are seascapes and landscapes. I am painting in acrylics and watercolour at the moment, as these mediums dry more quickly than oil and I am able to produce more work. My husband, who is also a painter, and I enjoy travelling in Australia and overseas, taking photographs and sketching. When we get home we use these photos to create our paintings.

I am largely self taught although I have done watercolour, acrylic and oil painting courses at Atwell Gallery in Alfred Cove. I am a member of Alfred Cove Arts and have taken on the Membership Co-ordinator role, which I enjoy. Earlier this year my husband and I opened our home to display and sell our work at Melville Arts Open Studios, which was hugely successful.

I was thrilled to win a Highly Commended award for my oil painting 'The Basin, Rottnest' at the Awards for Excellence exhibition by Alfred Cove Arts. I have also sold a number of other paintings at a variety of exhibitions run by Alfred Cove Arts, the latest being a painting of Emu Point, Albany at a recent Awards for Excellence exhibition.

I have also been picked as a finalist in 2024 for the Melville Art Awards which is a juried exhibition.

I have a large number of my paintings listed on Bluethumbart for sale and have recently been chosen as a Featured Artist. I have also had my painting selected as a Staff Pick on Bluethumb.

I am available for work on commission.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
