As an outdoor enthusiast I am not only inspired by what I see but by what I feel when I’m outside in the wilder side of nature. This painting is one of a series based on my trips to National Parks in Victoria. In the foreground is an abstracted depiction of what the bush is made of - a tangle of vegetation, deadwood, rock formations, trails, seasonal light and cast shadow. I want a sense of distance to convey the vastness of this country, and my colour choices express the mood of the day. I work in the studio from a portfolio of my photographs and impressions sketched on location.
