This painting is part of a series of abstracted landscapes of country Victoria relating to my experiences of a time and a place. I am inspired by the wondrous diversity of nature’s forms and patterns - from the panoramic to the most minuscule features on a stone, a leaf or the contorted shape of a weed and incorporate these as abstracted marks into my work. I paint both from memory and from the feelings evoked by my photography and sketchbook drawings which I use as references.
Originally from New Zealand and now calling Melbourne home, I am a visual artist dedicated to capturing the essence of the natural world and spent my art career exploring the textures and stories of the landscape. My background in design and art history anchors a practice that balances technical skill with a deep connection to the Victorian landscape. Working primarily in oils, I use rich layers of paint to capture the rugged textures of this ancient land. It’s been a joy to see my pieces find homes in private and corporate collections across Australia and internationally, and to share my vision through various exhibitions and award selections along the way.
