My art practice is informed by the natural world, its inhabitants, and issues relating to these. Conservation themes and aspects of biology I find amusing or fascinating are frequent topics of my art as, is the way in which we humans view our fellow creatures. I have a degree in Zoology and a PhD in marine science.
My art is fairly diverse as it includes acrylic paintings on canvas, acrylic paintings on fence palings, sculptures made from palm fronds and upcycled tip shop finds, interactive pieces I call “Implausible Signs” which are interactive mixed media incorporating very distressed palings. I have also been involved in audio-visual performance art where my public artwork makes music from trees via their electrical variation. On occasion this has been accompanied by live musicians in “interspecies concert. Additionally, in the public sphere I have executed two large murals in Hobart and have written an illustrated a children’s book called “A is for Antechinus”.
