Power Up

Deep inside all of us, within our chests, behind our hearts and lungs, fused to one of the discs that make up our spine, hides a tiny crystal. When we are young, the first time we choose to fight for life, that of our own or others, that choice sparks an awakening in the crystal's power. Throughout your life, the brightness of its glow will wax and wane but can never be extinguished. When you need strength the most, it will power up, a blinding flash of courage followed by an irradiating warmth of light in your body. Always have confidence the crystal can illuminate your path forward, you just need to take action.

Two major themes beat strongly at the heart of my work, one is a desire to push what portraiture can be – Exploring the beauty of the human form, what motivates us as people, the darkness found in trauma and of the spaces we inhabit. The second, is a love for colour, colours that create an emotional impact both for myself during the creation process and for the viewers of the works. Both streams of my practice are searching for a form of grace, one by creating beautifully broken vignettes of humanity and the other by teasing out of the viewer the feeling of simple joy from the aesthetics of colour and form.
