About

Mark Rhodes

Artist Statement

Mark Rhodes uses a unique combination of self-developed float techniques and traditional oil glazes to capture fluid moments in time, where creation and destruction shape our environment.
Boldness and softness grace his work in a “Yin and Yang” type of relationship. Soft diffused light and echoes of form drift across the canvas.
Mark grew up and lives on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, constantly drawing apon his immediate environment for reference and inspiration.
“Nature has no rules only an infinite and overwhelming capacity for change.”

Recently Mark has been doing a series of work on
Slate. The natural material lends itself to effects that are not really possible on regular artists mediums.

Storms are of particular interest to mark at the moment and are a great source of reference.

His darker toned series have been hired out for film and TV as they often suit the themes of the productions.

His portfolio of work numbers around 2000, and covers everything from cartooning, nudes and landscape paintings.

Manly Art Gallery and Museum have acquired two pieces for their collection and his work is collected worldwide.
