This painting depicts the view of Blue Knob as you first arrive in Nimbin from the South on a blustery day. I remember this view vividly from when I made my first visit to this vibrant, epicentre of counter culture, and it left such an impression that it is now the place that I call home. To add to the mystery of the piece, a house sits in the shadows of trees in the midground.
Influenced as much by Japanese animation and the illustrations of Herge (Tintin) as traditional landscape painting, I have used exaggerated vibrant colours that give the scene an almost surreal quality, playing on the town's quirky, colourful nature and penchant for mind altering substances.
