Mary Ciantar is an emerging artist who studied at UNSW School of Art and Design ( COFA) .
Working as a Social Scientist by day in a community role, Mary works under her pergola in makeshift studio in Sydney's inner west. She works primarily in oil, acrylic and sometimes mixed media.
Mary's artistic narrative is often expressed with reference to the landscape, and exploring the passage of time. Art making for Mary is a meditation, chance to slow down, and observe the detail in her surrounding. Colour and mark making finds its own rhythm, freedom, mood and visual expression.
Mary is inspired by many artists, art forms and movements and continues to learn and explore, influenced by abstract expressionism and the Australian Wedderburn artists. Today, Mary paints with friends and is also under the tutelage of a professional and practising artist , Rex Turnbull and continues to undertake workshops to be inspired and connected.
Mary sees art as a way of staying grounded in a changing environment and balancing the demands of her day job.
