This painting probably goes to the core of what I like to create - a moody atmospheric landscape with bold simple things, that is unique and totally original. This one has chunky, funky shapes suited to the industrial, mechanical theme, yet the image is softened with the inclusion of the ever-present watchdog and his little companion, the bird, keeping an eye on the comings and goings in the scrapyard around them. Industrial things, mechanical objects with moving parts made of cast iron, rusted or peeling with paint are some of my favourite subjects as they show their structure, their capability and their age all on the surface. There is something a bit strange about this scene, yet it is sort of familiar at the same time. The sides are painted, it's varnished and ready to hang.
