Artwork Description

Where Stillness Expands was recently selected for exhibition in the 2026 Camberwell Art Show, one of Australia’s most prestigious selected-entry art exhibitions.

Inspired by the luminous transition of the evening sky, Where Stillness Expands explores that fleeting moment when colour deepens, light softens, and the world begins to slow. It is an invitation to pause—to notice the quiet beauty that emerges as day gently gives way to night.

Layers of ultramarine, indigo and petrol blue create a rich atmospheric landscape, while passages of copper evoke the warmth of fading light lingering on distant clouds. The panoramic composition draws the eye across the painting before returning to a quiet central stillness, creating a sense of both movement and calm.

Created with contemporary interiors in mind, the work brings a feeling of serenity without overwhelming a space. Its balance of movement and stillness allows it to become a quiet focal point, equally suited to living spaces, bedrooms, entryways or places set aside for reflection and restoration.

Its panoramic format makes it particularly well suited to hanging above a bed, sofa, sideboard or hallway console, where its calming palette and expansive composition create a gentle sense of openness and tranquillity. Whether viewed from across a room or in a quiet moment of pause, the painting offers a subtle yet enduring presence within the space.

Rather than depicting a specific landscape, Where Stillness Expands captures an emotional one. It reflects those rare moments when the day’s noise begins to dissolve, inviting us to breathe more deeply, reconnect with ourselves, and find comfort in the expansive beauty of stillness.
