Artwork Description

This series of artwork reflects resistance and revival within the landscape of Australian native flora and fauna. After 150 acres were lost in the Blue Mountains bushfire, the land revealed both devastation on and renewal. My imagination depicted through my paint brushes, shows the scorched landscape and quite return of original greeneries of the land.
Through the series, paining became a way of listening to the regenerative natural world — it’s resilience, its shining presence, and its enduring spirit. Through my paintings, I have tried to show both the hardship of the scorched land and new life that followed— a story of hope and resilience in difficult times

Artist Bio

Mary T Nguyen is a Vietnamese Australian visual artist who is skilled in a range of media and styles. Based in Sydney, Nguyen has gained wide recognition for her created practice. The blurring of both cultural sides in her art has become the synthesis for her works. Her body of work is a combination of the collected personal experiences that have been enriched by the Australian culture, environment, and also her memories of home.

Mary was born in Hanoi. During her time in Vietnam, she attended formal training with well-known artists at the University of Fine Arts, Hanoi Vietnam.
She migrated to Australia and after many years of hard work raising her family in Australia, she continued her artistic pursuits, gaining her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the UNSW College of Fine Arts (COFA) 2013 in Sydney.
