Artwork Description

{Oasis}
: a fertile or green spot in a desert
: something or someplace that provides refreshing relief.

To me, creating an artwork is always a bit of a leap of faith. I can start with an idea of what it may end up looking like but the journey to the finished piece often comes with unknown challenges. I wanted these paintings to be a sort of visual to the feeling of walking through a desert like season of life and then finding a lush, peaceful oasis in the midst.

I started this piece by using layers of transparent oil paint, building slowly to add more texture. Some areas have negative space to show through the initial layers and the story of how the painting was made.

A beautiful rainforest scene captured in Promised Land, NSW. This painting was inspired by photographs taken by Natalie Andersen.

Artist Bio

I am an artist based in Adelaide, South Australia, working primarily in oils. Drawing and painting have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Over the years, they’ve become a way for me to pause, reflect, and notice the quiet beauty in the world around me.

Much of my inspiration comes from time spent in nature: walking, observing, and capturing moments through photos or sketches. My paintings often begin loosely and gradually take shape as I refine them layer by layer.

I’m especially drawn to the way light moves through the landscape. It shifts colours, deepens shadows, and softens the edges of things. These subtle changes are what I try to hold onto when I paint.

I hope my work offers a quiet moment, a chance to pause, reflect, and perhaps see something familiar a little differently.
