Bestat

This is Bastet, she a young ancient Egyptian woman who is being forced to marry a man twice her age to help pay off her families debts. The only place of solace she can find to escape her pain is in the secluded cave pools by the sea. She goes there to bathe, cry and pray to the gods to deliver her. I can feel the pain in her eyes.

I’m a self taught Congolese, Australian artist that has only been painting for 18 months. I have found an infinity with water colour on canvas. The black female form will be forever my muse. My work explores the idea of larger black female bodies being central to Renaissance style art with bold ties to my African culture.
