Artwork Description

Expressive and abstracted interpretations of the natural environment is at the centre of my style with its rhythmic forms, aesthetic surfaces, and emotive colours and tones. Map of my Making is an abstracted view of the ground as if from a birds eye view, and expresses my journey of discovery in abstracting my artistic voice.

Artist Bio

MaryLin’s distinctive style of contemporary abstract expressionist work forms a dynamic connection between the artist’s inner and outer worlds. The painted images reference the colours and rhythmic forms of the natural environment, with layered shapes, subtle tones, free brush marks and textures inviting the viewer into psychological and emotive imaginative spaces.

A deeply internalised translation of the organic processes of emotive growth and psychological change inform these paintings. They resonate with open possibility, luminosity, meaning and emotional energy. The explorative abstract images are embedded in experimentation with art materials and tools throughout the making of each artwork.

MaryLin lives and creates her artwork in the temperate rainforest area of the Dandenong Ranges near Narrm, Melbourne; and is qualified with both a bachelor’s degree in painting and many years of joyous engagement with this contemporary and ancient art form. She has been involved in many group art shows and is currently enjoying an artist’s residency as an emerging artist within the group artist’s studios at Burrinja Cultural Centre in Upwey.

MaryLin’s abstract expressionist paintings are created in acrylic and other media with a particular focus on vigorous brushwork and rhythmic composition. The resonant and dynamic abstractions thus formed invite the viewer to interpret the artwork with their own perceptions..
