I painted this in an hour just to see the affect of dulling the pastel colours lightly. As you can probably tell, I love the simplification of form, even up to the point that it’s cartoonish. I believe that a portrait is better interpreted when more is taken away than given. It leaves the viewer with something to desire and a chance for them to fill in the blanks. You’ll see what I mean later.
