Artwork Description

This painting inspired by of the sandstone cliffs around Anglesea in Victoria, Australia. I spent a lot time at Angelsea at my grandparents house when I was a child. This part of Victoria still means a lot to me and its one of my favourites spots to walk along the beach and explore the rock pools and dunes.

I'm more interested in the way colour, shapes, textures and patterns create inner emotions, than trying to depict a 'photograph'. I have been told that my painting has a uniquely Australian style. I'm not sure what that is, but I'm very much influenced by Sidney Nolan, Reg Mombassa and Ken Done. My work is somewhere between fine art and design.

Artist Bio

Hand-carved & printed, limited editions. Where graphic lines meet classic craft.

I’m a Melbourne-based illustrator and printmaker with 25 years of experience. After years in agencies, I founded my studio in 2009 to bridge technical precision with the grit of the handmade. I think of my practice as an off-site art department where graphic lines meet classic craft.

My heart is in linocut printing—a slow, meditative craft. It requires hours of hand-carving a block before ink ever touches paper. Because of this process, every print is a unique entity with its own character. My style is a conversation between graphic art and relief printing, shaped by the Australian landscape and the legacy of Margaret Preston and the Japanese Sōsaku-hanga movement.

When I’m not at the carving bench, I’m usually recording music or heading out on a road trip. I’m a professional member of Illustrators Australia and always open to new collaborations and commissions.
