Artist Bio

Thank you for taking the time to look at my latest works. I'm Matthew and Australian born artist of British Portuguese heritage. I started exploring artistically at a young age with the support of my mother and grandmother who taught art and craft classes, they encouraged me to pursue creativity. I am thankful that creativity was encouraged from an early age, it's something that was cultivated, then built upon. I was also gifted art at a young age, I associated art with value, beauty and creativity.

During my teenage years my art was more vector/computer based designing clothing, making digital prints and so on. Art never left me, despite not perusing a career as an artist after school it continued to be with me.

In my adult years I have perused beauty, creativity, design, painting on canvas and sculpture. I consider creativity as a fundamental function of who I have been made to be. I enjoy pushing myself creatively; I am encouraged by a future of painting, sculpting and exploring.

I aspire to create continually dynamic, deep, layered paintings that live well and uplift the room. I enjoy looking at my work from different angles seeing something I haven't seen before. The layering of my work leaves your imagination wondering, digging and finding new points of interest. I don't set out to make work that is easily understood or instantly comprehended, rather work that draws you in and tells a story. I endeavor to create timeless art, unique to me.

Thank you.
