Fissure

Fissure follows a continuing interest in layers of lines accumulating over the picture surface. Fissure displays a palette of varying colours, ranging from lighter background yellow and orange to darker greys and maroon over a background of dark violet. The brush strokes are long mostly emanating from the top and bottom of the canvas. Fissure is an abstract piece that moves with the snaking sinuous lines. The title is whimsical, not representational.

I am a visual artist with a hidden disability. I mainly paint in oil on canvas. My works celebrate the process of painting, embracing changes, accidents, and discoveries made along the way. For as long as I can remember I have been interested in lines in artwork. This interest has distilled to a point where I am painting only in lines. Lines come in many forms‚ the brush stoke‚ the mark‚ calligraphy. I love the way the patterns of lines build up‚ they merge from fields into traces of energy. I am interested in the harmonies and the joining of form and the different scales at which the lines form pattern.
