Artwork Description

‘Fly Away Home was inspired by the lathe flocks of Galah’s returning to the trees to roost from the paddocks along my parents driveway. As the sun sets across the paddocks, the flocks of pink and grey Galah’s return to the trees. The rapid wing beats leave a vibrant blur of pink, and grey a beautiful contrast to the dry summer pastures enhanced by the setting sun.

Artist Bio

Howdy, I'm from rural South Australia, and call the 'Limestone Coast’ in the South East of South Australia my home. I live on our family farming property, and paint from my veranda studio, or take my brushes to any secluded location across the region, to capture the essence of the beautiful local landscape. Our property is home to some beautiful and striking flora and fauna, and I take inspiration from this in my work. I draw great inspiration from my backyard, and the metaphor of ‘our backyard’ we are so lucky to have such a beautiful place to call home in Australia.

My work is predominantly Watercolour and Ink, and through varied application, combined with the use of pen I challenge the soft and subtle textures of these mediums, creating bold layers and movement.
I never enjoyed 'colouring-in' at school, or staying 'inside' the lines, and I still find this restrictive. I often pretend I am 'Mr Squiggle' and see what comes to life on my page, I am passionate about letting the colour guide me in my work. I never have a plan, and like to imagine that in my work there are no mistakes, only personality; and that creates so much fun.
