Artwork Description

This artwork represents a recent trip to Europe, where I photographed these pigeons. The white ones were from Venice, while the others were from Palermo and Valletta. They are essentially no different from our pigeons in Australia, but to me bring back vivid memories. The natural ground they inhabit is substituted for a geometric pattern, which comes from a fine detailed mosaic in a Byzantine Basilica in Amalfi. The artwork has a relaxed and bright, positive vibe that shows movement in the sky, the flying birds overhead and the randomly varied intensity of tones and colours in the patterned ground, perfect to cheer up a blank wall or sideboard. As well as the signature on the front, this artwork comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.

Artist Bio

Hi, I'm Megan. I have been interested in art and textiles since I was a young child; always drawing, knitting, crocheting and sewing. I took this passion with me throughout my adult life too, accumulating skills, curiosity and understanding. I enjoy exploring different media and methods to achieve certain effects. I use pencil, pastel, charcoal, inks, markers, gouache, watercolour and collage for works on paper and quality acrylic paints for works on canvas. Since it became possible to work digitally I have enjoyed adding photography and digital techniques to the mix. Yarn and fabric have also been favourite means of expression for me, opening up a whole other dimension: creating works to be worn.

I was born and raised and still live in the Western suburbs of Melbourne. Over the years of working in the fashion industry, raising a family, teaching at a secondary level then embracing early retirement, I have created a lot of artworks which, along with recent works, are begging for a home of their own. I hope that my offerings will bring joy to the lives and colour to the homes of other people in Australia and beyond.

Much of my artwork draws inspiration from the natural world and my home environment in some way, with a strong nod to my Textile design background. Although I use an abundance of materials and methods, there are a few common threads to most of my artworks: a tendency toward colour and texture and a desire to express movement. Much of my imagery includes pattern and some of my work could be described as ‘quirky’. In the future I hope to have the chance to work on a large scale. Thanks for reading my bio :)
