A Barkly Sunset

When travelling across the Barkly Highway on a trip to Central Australia, we free camped for the night. Before enjoying a sky full of stars we were blessed to have a gorgeous colourful sunset that painted the trees with its pink hues. I just had to paint this. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as we enjoyed that evening, The gum leaves were created using masking fluid painted onto a black and coloured pour. Once dry the background was painted and then the masking fluid removed. This gives the gum leaves their unique silhouetted colours as you look through them to the sunset.

Hi, my name is Mely and I am pleased to share with you my journey in art.
I live in a cottage in South East Queensland and when I am not creating and working, my partner and I are travelling our beautiful country in our Slide-On Camper.

Colours and nature inspire me. Travelling around the deserts, the bush, the outback and beaches; and enjoying the birds, insects and animals lifts me and excites me. My beautiful country inspires me.

I have always enjoyed creating with materials and coloured threads to create quilts, craft and clothing. My journey into using Acrylic Paints is a recent one, but a very exciting one. Just as nature is full of diversity and surprises, when I create an artwork using the technique of acrylic flow, I love how different surprises pop out each time. Adding embroidery or textiles to my artwork is my way of enjoying a combination of both techniques resulting in a truly unique piece each time.

Experimenting with new art styles is similar to exploring the vast contrasts of our beautiful country and brings me closer to it when I can’t be on the road. As I keep learning and journeying in my art, I am reminded of the journeys still to come when I can again be travelling and embracing all that nature has to offer in this stunning country.
