This study was inspired by a sandstone formation and fallen boulder that I recently noticed from a boat on Sydney Harbour. It intrigued me that it was so peaceful there that day and the foreshore looked like that one might expect to find in a much more secluded spot, perhaps on Pittwater. Given a chance, nature can usually help restore the soul even in the middle of a big city. I think this painting is uplifting because it is so bright, yet the scene is beautifully serene.
