Artwork Description

After Covid we did a road trip from Melbourne to Adelaid. As we drove through the open spaces we saw many scenes like this, a lone tree on a hill weathered and leaning, but still standing strong. It must have withstood years of winds and storms up on that hill, and in that time has probably mostly gone unnoticed. Except for the animals of course, who have sat under it for shade, and the creatures who have appreciated it as a viewing platform, or a refuge and resting place. Silently standing there, the tree is giving so much.

Artist Bio

Melissa is a Melbourne based artist best known for her large landscapes and bold still lifes.

She paints with oils on canvas using nature and personal experiences as her inspiration. These observations are brought to life in her studio, a converted horse stable which overlooks a magnificent oak tree.

Melissa’s passion for painting began in her mid teens, and developed when she majored in art at teachers college. She has continued since with tuition from a local artist and mentor.

Melissa’s art has developed into a contemporary style. Her work is not a just a representation of what she observes, but rather an expression of it, and her paintings will take you on a journey through her moody and colorful world.

Melissa has participated in group and solo exhibitions. She is a member of the Victorian Artists Society, a Bluethumb finalist in 2022, and a selected participant in the Banyule Council Open Studios program. Her work is held in a variety of collections including the Epworth Healthcare Art Collection, Melbourne Magistrate's Court, and private collections in Australia and the UK.
