Artwork Description

This is a piece inspired by Edgar Degas who painted ballerinas in the 1920s and 1930s also working in pastels (I was inspired by a photograph found online )

Artist Bio

Melissa McElhone is an artist who has been practicing for more than 15 years. Her pathway to art and painting has been through a number of years and study of ceramics sculpture and painting at TAFE and UNSW art and design school. Notable achievements include finalist selection to National Emerging art prize 2018, 2023 and NSW Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2014.
Most recently Melissa has been focusing on painting
" I have been loving the freedom painting provides me to explore and play. The best thing is the colour you mix and use on the canvas or board basically stays the same -whereas the ceramic firing process alters colour so much. I have been using gouache and oils mostly, mainly because I can mix or reactivate the colours easily as the painting evolves."
Her Lets Play artworks are available on Blue thumb. This series of girls on swings and cartwheeling are carefree and joyful. Mixed media Acrylics oil pastels and Gouache on board.
