I am a mixed-media abstract artist whose work is rooted in the female form.
Using acrylic paint with gold, silver, and copper leaf, I often depict women as nude or semi-nude because I believe the female form has incredible and innate beauty and has the power to portray, convince, and entice. Although I do not shy away from sexuality, I strive to go beyond it in my paintings.
In the current age of social change, I hope to remind viewers what being a woman is truly about. As the matriarch of my family, businesswoman, construction worker, artist, daughter, sister, aunt, designer, and more, I believe being a woman is about wearing many hats gracefully and never letting yourself be put in a box. I have been on my own for most of my life, and I believe it’s important to get up every day and prove that you don’t need special treatment to be powerful and successful.
Painting is my outlet, so my thoughts and emotions naturally surface in my work. Often, the colors I begin with reflect my current mood; some might be playful, while others might be sultry or calm. I’ll also often pair clashing colors together and work with them until they unite in harmony. Some of my compositions go completely into abstraction to explore various emotions or concepts; my intuitive approach often results in gestural, bold, and expressionist compositions. Whether it is a painting of a nude woman or a completely abstract work, there is a very intentional piece of me and my identity held within each mark.
