My work has been highly influenced by the world of commercial art and graphic design. This translates to my art in many ways. My still life paintings are careful composition full of allegories, which capture a moment in time where all represented items are meaningful beyond the composition.
"Chuck Taylors on a Wire" is one in a series of drawings that feature gold foil embellishments.
The Chuck Taylor All Star shoes are a reoccurring motif in some of my artworks as they are both nostalgic and a modern trend. While they were designed in 1917, they have been a popular shoe since the 1950s, and are still produced, sold and worn by kids today. The urban myth of shoes hanging from a wire has several theories from being a place where you can buy drugs to a location where someone was killed, plus many more colourful theories. But the truth is, they were a "tag" by the youth of the day, saying "I was here" in the same way graffiti is used today.
