Artwork Description

Oil on wood, ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

This a self portrait I did at a time when I was feeling quite overwhelmed and stretched. It is hard to balance family, work, your own needs and the needs of everyone else in our modern world. I have often used themes of 'balancing' or 'juggling' with previous self portraits, in a fun manner. This self portrait is darker. Since COVID there has been extra stress on everyone, and the turmoil is heavy. This is a visual representation of how I felt at this time.... tied up and drowning.

Four pink protea flowers and leaves of green sit in a tall cut crystal vase. Next to the vase is a single protea flower with leafy stalk. The background is a light grey white colour. The painting is framed by a light coloured wooden floating frame. Two decorative glass bottles hold pink and purple fuchsia flowers and leaves, The glass bottles are sitting on a white bench, with a dark blue wall backgound.A bottle of perfume (with the text Coco Loco Chérie Amour) has a single white rose placed in the bottle like a vase. Another white rose lies to the left of the bottle, while the perfume lid sits to the left of the bottle. With multiple light sources casting many shadows, a beautiful transparent shadow made by light passing through the yellow liquid is cast in front of the bottle.
