A Burning Sense of Urgency is a series of large drawings that reflect on environmental catastrophe and our fragile relationship with the natural world. Inspired by the fires that devastated the rural town of Cudgewa. The works emerged alongside a period marked by pandemics, conflict, and escalating climate disasters.
Approached through the visual language of romantic landscape painting, the drawings use beauty and atmosphere to draw viewers in, while confronting them with scenes of destruction and loss. Burnt bushland and damaged rural structures become reminders of the environmental crises unfolding around us and the human systems that contribute to them.
The series reflects on the instability of our contemporary world and the uneasy awareness that both landscapes and lives can be altered irrevocably in an instant.
