Artwork Description

“Naomi” arrived on the canvas with the kind of presence that doesn’t ask for permission. She simply is. There is something unapologetic in her gaze, that cool, composed distance you often see in fashion editorials, where beauty becomes both a shield and a kind of language. I remember layering her skin in warm tones, brushing in the electric blue around her, and feeling the contrast settle into a quiet tension: fierce yet calm, striking yet grounded. To me, Naomi represents the versions of ourselves we step into when we need to be strong. The face we wear when softness would cost too much. And yet, behind the poise, there is still depth, still story, still the vulnerability that makes us human. She is a reminder that power and gentleness can coexist — and that sometimes, distance is just another kind of armour.

Artist Bio

Joelle Joy is an Australian visual artist and writer whose work explores stillness, resilience, and the quiet spaces between emotion and form.

Her practice spans drawing, mixed media, and painting, often layered with symbolism drawn from nature, breath, and inner landscapes. Each piece emerges from a reflective process, shaped by lived experience, recovery, and a deep respect for gentleness and truth.

Art became central to Joelle’s life not through formal training, but through necessity, offering grounding, meaning, and a way forward. Today, her work sits at the intersection of personal healing and shared human experience, created with the hope that it may offer others a sense of recognition, calm, or quiet companionship.
