Wadda Mooli, Ahgon Nubal Naybul, Welcome, hello, how are you.
I am Michael Andersen, a contemporary Indigenous artist living in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. I am a descendant of Girudala Country, the Bowen and Whitsunday area. I grew up in Bindal and Wulgurukaba Country now known as Townsville region and my family has been in the North QLD region ever since.
I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I found myself drawn to my traditional Indigenous artwork because of the calming effect and I love how it tells a story. I find a connection to the story and the visual impact. I paint in a contemporary style, drawing from my history and family, about experiences and circumstances relevant to today, although the themes can translate across eras, cultures, and time.
All paintings find their owner by their connection to the story and the visual impact.
