Artwork Description

The entertainers.
An symphony of rhythm colour and the psychology of performance
The Entertainers captures the spirit of performance without depicting literal figures. Instead, it distills the essence of entertaining into abstract forms, where rhythm, color, and movement dominate the canvas. Sweeping fields of red and yellow evoke a charged atmosphere of passion and anticipation, while fractured blacks introduce tension and restraint. Bursts of violet and green punctuate the composition with sudden energy, mirroring the improvisation and unpredictability of live performance.
Visually, the work transforms sound into image: bold, percussive strokes echo rhythm, flowing arcs suggest melodic continuity, and sharp contrasts mark moments of dramatic interplay. Beyond its formal qualities, The Entertainers explores the psychology of spectacle—how performers reveal and conceal themselves within the audience’s gaze. Ultimately, it is less about individual presence and more about the communal electricity of entertainment, where energy and identity are amplified, fractured, and shared.

Artist Bio

Michael Bertoli is a Melbourne-based digital abstract expressionist artist whose practice explores the emotional and perceptual possibilities of color, form, and digital technology. With a background in graphic design, his work champions the expressive freedom of the digital medium through intricate layering, unrestricted palettes, and dynamic compositions. Working primarily in Photoshop, Michael manipulates shapes, textures, and visual disturbances—such as glitch aesthetics and fractal structures—to create immersive
non-representational artworks that challenge the boundaries of perception.

His creative process is both intuitive and deliberate, balancing spontaneity with careful refinement to
evoke a sense of movement, depth, and emotional resonance. Influenced by the digital age and
abstract pioneers like Jackson Pollock, he reinterprets traditional abstract expressionism through a modern, technologically driven lens.

Michael’s work is exhibited both online and in physical galleries, aiming to bridge the gap between artist,
artwork, and observer. Through vibrant digital
experimentation, he invites viewers into a space where interpretation is fluid, personal, and endlessly shifting.
