Artwork Description

Urban Landscape
Neon Pulse
This piece is anchored by a precise black grid—reminiscent of windows, screens, or architectural frameworks—that slices through a vivid storm of color and form. Behind these geometric lines, the composition erupts with restless energy: reds, blues, yellows, greens, and whites collide and overlap like neon lights, graffiti, or the constant flow of city traffic.
The fragmented shapes create the sensation of peering through countless windows or pixels, offering fleeting glimpses of multiple urban moments at once. There’s a compelling tension between order and chaos—the grid evokes structure, design, and control, while the swirling, layered abstractions pulse with the unpredictability and intensity of metropolitan life.
The title Urban Landscape captures this duality perfectly. The work doesn’t represent a city in a literal sense—it channels its spirit: the grid as its architecture, the color as its vitality, and the fragmentation as the rhythm and relentless pace of urban existence.

Artist Bio

Michael Bertoli is a Melbourne-based digital abstract expressionist artist whose practice explores the emotional and perceptual possibilities of color, form, and digital technology. With a background in graphic design, his work champions the expressive freedom of the digital medium through intricate layering, unrestricted palettes, and dynamic compositions. Working primarily in Photoshop, Michael manipulates shapes, textures, and visual disturbances—such as glitch aesthetics and fractal structures—to create immersive
non-representational artworks that challenge the boundaries of perception.

His creative process is both intuitive and deliberate, balancing spontaneity with careful refinement to
evoke a sense of movement, depth, and emotional resonance. Influenced by the digital age and
abstract pioneers like Jackson Pollock, he reinterprets traditional abstract expressionism through a modern, technologically driven lens.

Michael’s work is exhibited both online and in physical galleries, aiming to bridge the gap between artist,
artwork, and observer. Through vibrant digital
experimentation, he invites viewers into a space where interpretation is fluid, personal, and endlessly shifting.
