Artwork Description

While walking along the coast of Sydney I saw some street gardens. I love the way people incorporate gardens with their homes, so I painted this scene. The colours were bright and summer storm clouds were in the background. I wanted to translate the colour and vitality of the gardens with the summer vibe of the coast.

I grew up in New Zealand in a very scenic coastal town, so the dramatic sweeping landscapes influenced me at an early age. I moved to Sydney in 1989 and from 1999 I lived in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney where I rekindled a passion for landscape art. The diverse flora of the eastern suburbs influenced my palette, drawing me into the colour and magic of Sydney's coastline and surrounds. I love painting with vibrant, vivid tones to capture man's relationship with nature. My family and I are now living in the south coast of NSW. I am surrounded by amazing landscapes that continue to inspire my passion, and I am constantly trying to express this through my art.
