Artwork Description

"Looking Over My Nose So I Can See" by Mike Fernandes is a fun and playful artwork that explores the idea of perspective and perception of yourself and others. The black and white tones represent the idea of the judgments we have in all situations in life. The artwork invites the viewer to look beyond the obvious and discover new meanings and connections in life in general. The title has a slight suggestion that the artwork is challenging the audience to look over their own nose, or their own biases and assumptions, so they can see the world in a different way. The artwork is meant to make you think.
The artwork is a celebration of creativity and curiosity, as well as a reminder that there is always more than what can be seen.
This is an unframed black & white pastel on paper and will make a great talking piece in any place.

Artist Bio

Mike Fernandes has many talents including art, photography, sculpture, graphic design, copy-writing and inventing.
Mike’s preferred art style is “Outre”.
With little regard for rules, Mike is comfortable teasing an image out of any available surface, rather than forcing a formal series of brush strokes. Unlike photography where beauty is there for Mike’s camera to present with beauty, art is insidious, often creeping up with messages and personalities you didn’t know existed. These messages and personalities are often wicked and Mike loves them that way.
Mike is also a versatile and creative photographer who has been working in the industry for over 40 years. He specializes in editorial, corporate, and documentary photography, capturing stories and moments with his unique style and vision. He has a passion for exploring different cultures and landscapes, in which genres his work was dubbed “Photo Poetry” – A title he loves and aspires to.
Mike signs his work as ‘Mike Fernandes’, ‘Mikey’, ‘M Fernandes’, ‘MikeO’, or just ‘MF’ – (depending on his mood at the time), and there’s always a fingerprint somewhere as he’s very ‘hands-on’!
Mike Fernandes started his career as a graphic designer with the Commonwealth Bank Advertising Department and went on to be their photographer and art director before starting his own creative agency, Genesis Promotions in Sydney where he is currently based.
Mike works with his son Ben Fernandes, who is an art director, technical director, and web designer.
