Two figures have stopped to talk; one rests his weary legs on the side of the road under a couple of large trees while the other remains on foot. In the foreground a dying tree stands amongst the fallen and broken limbs of other trees. Beyond them a single thatched cottage nestles in the low green hills, its tired roof patched with timbers and straw alike. On the horizon a town can be seen with its mills rising above the orange roofs. In the sky above the clouds rise and swell gently as they continue their travel over the vast and open land.
