Artwork Description

There are three parts to this piece...
1/ The sculpture is based on the woodcut of an Indian rhino by Albrecht Durer.
2/ The decoration is in the style of medieval illuminated manuscripts, the method of transcribing information before printing.
3/ The text is taken from my travel journals.
All three represent an attempt to record something for posterity.

Artist Bio

At an early age I was fond of drawing, dreaming of becoming an animation illustrator when I grew up. My other love was science, in particular biology and the natural world. From mosaics to linocut prints, I've dabbled in various mediums over the years eventually focusing on ceramic sculpture. All pieces are sculpted individually and hand-painted using coloured underglazes. I enjoy this work because I can combine sculpting and painting in the one object. Nature, history and mythology are high on my list of interests and I try to incorporate these themes into my work. Various cultures encountered while traveling also have a big influence on my creations. Pieces can be found in galleries around Adelaide (as well as the odd coffee shop).
