Hi there, my name is Michelle Keayes, I was born in 1968 in Mona Vale in Sydney. I grew up on the beautiful beaches of the North Shore, however now I am based in the small regional town of Cowra NSW, I love the quiet peaceful life but there will always be a special place in my heart for that gorgeous blue ocean and crisp white sand.
For as long as I can remember I have always been fascinated by the natural world around me, the sounds, the smells, the textures, but most of all the colour and design. I was detail oriented even as a child, I felt driven to explore what I was experiencing on so many levels. Not just in the natural world, but I appreciated design in all forms of creativity. I value quality workmanship in any field and am driven by a strong desire to learn how things are made. This desire has led me on many different paths, including restoring furniture, professional singing, house restoration, farming, industrial sewing, and the list goes on. I also had 4 beautiful children.
I started my art journey just a few years ago when I became interested in watercolour. I adored the way I could use the many washes to create life and depth in my paintings, I also use acrylic, and for a time painted landscapes on furniture. Though I won multiple awards for this, I kept coming back to my love for watercolour. It has become my sole passion, I love to create and I create what I love.
THE MURPHY COLLECTION is based on a small dog named Murphy (my sisters dog who recently passed) I started this collection in honour of their close relationship. They were joined at the hip and went on many adventures together. I am soon to publish a children’s book about Murphy. The MULTI AWARD WINNING collection is distinctly colourful and imaginative, depicting Murphy’s adventures, mixed with a touch of fantasy. There are 6 Editions so far, and I will continue to add more. I feel a sense of fun and excitement as I let my imagination run wild with my designs, and I am constantly dreaming of new and interesting concepts to incorporate. As I paint I dream, and as I dream I create.
I also enjoy painting painting birds and botanicals with a dreamy quality. Here my love of colour and design also shines through as I love the opportunity to capture the detail of the fascinating world around me. I hope my art brings you as much joy as it brings me. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
