Michelle Macnamara grew up in Melbourne and lives in Byron Bay with her husband and daughter. She paints from a home studio there.
The work is figurative, usually the female form, and often a kind of self-portrait. In her 2026 series, States of Mind, objects sit where the eyes should be — a goldfish, a teapot, a dollar sign — the thought that is taking up the room. Slightly surreal. A moment, or a dream she is not quite finished with.
Works are mostly in oil on canvas, Michelle has been drawing and painting since she was a teen. Since 2000 she has shown in solo and group exhibitions, and her paintings sit in private collections around Australia and overseas.
Michelle also writes and publishes children’s picture books through GreatFunBooks.co.
