Artwork Description

This piece symbolises the contradiction many women of the current generation feel regarding sexuality - sexual freedom versus the shameful feelings deeply embedded in the female psyche about body image and sexual expression. The shadow of oppressive standards maintained over centuries, remaining despite feminist and sexual freedom movements.

Artist Bio

Mikaela has been painting her whole life. She was raised by a wonderfully creative family who have always supported her life-long dream to become an artist. Her grandmother is her biggest inspiration and influence, who fed Mikaela's creative curiosity from a very young age.
With a love of everything arts, Mikaela has spent the past 7 years working as a professional singer and performer, as well as a theatre makeup artist. This has shaped her into an experienced and passionate teller of stories - in all manners of expression.
In 2018 Mikaela graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Laws, which has deepened her interest and understanding of people and community. This interest in people as well as a love and curiosity of all things beautiful inspires much of her painting.
Mikaela's work often focuses on the subtle ways in which people show emotion - revealing itself in the eyes, in the curve of the neck, the shape of the shoulders.

Mikaela specialises in painting people and portraits.
